Stuck in Flagstaff traffic where every hour can often feel like rush-hour? Attempting to turn left only to find that no one will keep open the space to let you make that turn? Trying to find some peace and solace amidst honking horns, train whistles and digitally distracted jay-walkers? Desperately desiring a break from the world of business meetings and soccer practices, bake sales and parent/teacher conferences and so on and so on? You are not alone. And relief is right around the corner. So, take a breath. Re-center. Set your GPS to 530 Piccadilly Drive and go. Pull into the space of Flagstaff Face & Body in Aspen Place at The Sawmill. Step out of your vehicle. Open their door. Let the midday madness gradually fade into the background as easing earth tones, soothing music and the aromatic scent of eucalyptus wisp you from the outside world.
This full-service med-spa offers a full menu of luscious treatments for those seeking a gift of self-love and appreciation. From soothing massage therapies, hydrating body wraps and foot reflexology to advanced skincare therapeutics and aesthetic services such as hair restoration and dermal fillers, Flagstaff Face & Body will not disappoint. “I am very passionate about this business,” said spa owner Leona Barth. She has made it her mission to provide her clients with the highest quality care and the most gratifying outcomes. “We all want to be our best selves, and that’s what we are trying to do here.”
Wanting to be her best self, Leona had been a regular patron of the spa, initially located in downtown Flagstaff. She was, then, working for a pharmaceutical company though it was her dream to have her own business. It began with a casual conversation during a scheduled spa treatment. Leona started chatting with the owners and mentioned her goal of having her own business. “I think that just stuck in the back of their heads somewhere, and about a year or eight months down the road they contacted me and asked, ‘would you be interested in buying this business?’”
Leona purchased the spa from those owners in December 2009. The past decade has been a whirlwind, both everything and nothing that Leona expected. “I am very fortunate right now that I have gotten to this place where we are good,” Leona smiled, praising her staff for the hard work and dedication that they bring to the spa, making it a haven of relaxation and healing. Leona has poured her heart and soul into creating a tranquil sanctuary amidst the bustling hub of Aspen Place and The Sawmill shopping center. “I am proud of the fact that ten years into this, we are still going strong. There is definitely something to be said for that.” She tripled the spa’s income in the first three years, increased its staff, and relocated the business to where it stands today. While the structure may be small, the space within creates a sense of inner abundance. The clamor and commotion of the outside world dissipate the moment you enter. No matter the treatment one is there to receive, they will feel refreshed, rejuvenated and ready for whatever awaits them when they leave the spa.
Leona works hard to offer visitors the best service possible. “It is necessary to stay cutting edge and to look into new and different therapies and devices,” she explained. “We are just trying to be the best at what we do.” The spa’s most recent addition, an Ultherapy© machine, is one that Leona is particularly happy to be able to offer her clients. “I am super excited about the results,” Leona beamed, a smile lighting up her youthful-looking face. “Ultherapy© uses heat guided by ultrasound,” she explained. “To get to the foundational level of collagen; which results in lifting and tightening, but more importantly slows down the aging process tremendously!”
Unlike many quick-fix solutions, Leona shared that Ultherapy© does not offer instant gratification. “It could take anywhere from two to three months, but I did my homework, and the results are just amazing. It is not a series of treatments either,” Leona added. “It’s sort of a one and done for the time.” She encourages anyone to stop in for a consultation, whether for Ultherapy©, or for any of the many services they afford. “We offer free consultations for guests to come in and talk about what their concerns are,” Leona shared.
Dedicated to every client, it is like having a personal escort to the best version of yourself. “We can create a customized treatment plan for anyone,” Leona stated. “There is so much more that we offer. We’re not just a day spa.” “We are just trying to be the best at what we do,” Leona said, and assures that if any customer isn’t completely satisfied with the service they received, she makes a point to reach out personally. “I am a super big proponent and advocate of customer service. We provide phenomenal service in the treatment room and great customer service in general. That’s important.”
Ultimately, relaxation and rejuvenation are human needs. Men and women alike should feel comfortable and welcome, receiving the treatment they want and need without judgment. “Our clientele percentage of men is going up. They are coming in for more of the facials and that sort of thing,” Leona said, excited to be able to serve a more diverse clientele in her spa. She feels it is a reflection of our societal shift from shame and secrecy to openness and acceptance.
“I can remember, back when I was in high school; we didn’t even talk about whether we bleached our hair or not. You never admitted that. It was just so crazy,” Leona said, laughing at the thought. “Now women are always talking with one another: ‘Oh, it’s time for me to go get my Botox,’ or, ‘Yeah, look at this filler! Isn’t it great?’ It’s such a more common occurrence. And yes, it’s seeping into the male population, too.” No matter who you are, you deserve to step out of the bustle and frenzy of your every-day life and discover the possibilities of a more relaxed, more rejuvenated version of yourself. The staff at Flagstaff Face & Body are ready to meet you and help you become the best you that you can be.
